West Dog's Teeth, aka West Dog Tooth, was labeled as "the hardest hike" in Hong Kong. And of course, I always wanted to try it! There are some sections that requires some bouldering skills, and yes, you do need to use your hands to scramble up at some point to reach the ridge lines, but I would not call it as the hardest hike in Hong Kong. It is still totally worth to check it out as it offers one of the most amazing panoramic view!

This hike offers 3 exit options:

Option 1: exit through Lantau Peak to Mui Wo Ferry Pier (a longer route and will take 2 hours plus)

Option 2: exit through Lantau Peak to Tung Chung MTR (will take another 1hr 20 minutes or so)

Option 3: exit through Ngong Ping before Lantau Peak (shortest route - only 30 minutes to Ngong Ping where you can walk to the bus terminus to Mui Wo Ferry Pier or Tung Chung MTR Station)

We did Option 3, since we saw the crowd at Lantau Peak. There was no reason for us to go to Lantau Peak when we had done it numerous times in the past.

Duration of the hike: from the starting point and exit through Ngong Ping is approximately 4 hours, including 30 minutes lunch break.

We took the 9:50am ferry from Central to Mui Wo, and then bus 1 or 2 to Tai O direction, which we got off at Shek Pik Police Station (in reality, you would see a reservoir, not a police station). We walked back for about 5 minutes to "Tong Fuk Catchwater", the trailhead. By the time we got to Tong Fuk Catchwater, it was already 11:15am.

The beginning part is pretty easy and flat until you reach a giant rock that said "西狗牙“ (West Dog Tooth)。 From this point on, it is all uphill. It took us about 2 hours to boulder/scramble up. Enjoy the view, and you can definitely see Big Buddha too!
