Night Hike in Quarry Bay/Taikoo

During COVID-19 closure, we love doing dusk/night hike. Summer in Hong Kong is really humid and hot. Normally we are not able to do much outdoor activities in the daytime, let alone wearing masks, which is a mandatory requirement. Can you imagine doing outdoor workout or run in the 30+ degree celcius wearing mask?
Dusk/night hike is a great option during this time. The temperature is much cooler with breeze, and we get to see some critters and animals that will only come out at night. We had seen porcupines, wild boars (which is very common in Hong Kong), lightning bugs, and glow worms on the stream bed. Below pictures are taken at our neighborhood. The route is Quarry Bay Tree Walk (access through Kornhill) - Sir Cecil's Ride - Siu Ma Shan - Mt. Butler - Sir Cecil's Ride - Mt. Parker Road. Sometimes, we do the Hong Pak Country Trail, Jardine's Lookout to Parkview, Boa Vista Trail or the Tai Tam Reservoir to mix it up. There are endless different trails on how you can do it, and we found a lot of war tunnels during our exploration, and ribbon off trails. We don't normally take the concrete path. Most of the trails can be done between 2 to 4 hours. Just a reminder, there are a lot of steps to hike up from Tai Fung Au to Mt. Butler, which will take about 5 to 10 minutes (I think the plaque said 560 steps - go ahead and count it!
